Katy Perry Surprises Fans with Unique Stage Trick in Las Vegas Residency

Katy Perry showed off her unique flair during the opening of her “Play” residency at Resorts World Las Vegas. Always one to entertain with grandeur, the singer sported a beer can bustier outfit, playfully pretending to lactate as a new mom. This bold look paid homage to her iconic “California Gurls” music video from 2010 where she shot whipped cream from her bikini top in a Candyland setting with Snoop Doggy-dog by her side.

In addition to her eccentric wardrobe, Perry’s show featured a giant talking surgical face mask and props like a large toilet with plungers, oversized mushrooms, and dancing toothbrushes with toothpaste tubes. The singer’s larger-than-life performance was elevated with quirky elements that delighted the audience with irreverent humor.

The famous singer showcased some of her greatest hits to a full house, belting out tunes like “Waking up in Vegas,” “Dark Horse,” “California Gurls,” “Roar,” “Firework” and more. In a statement, Perry mentioned that her show, PLAY, is vibrant and fun for the kids but also has a cheeky side for the grown-ups. She emphasized that the show was specially crafted for the Vegas theatre, with larger-than-life sets that couldn’t be taken on tour. Perry’s residency will be running until March.

Perry rocked eight vibrant outfits during her performance, including a chic white mini dress, a dazzling sequined orange maxi dress, a glamorous pink Cleopatra-inspired gown, and a retro 1960s bubble dress. Rumor has it that the “I Kissed a Girl” singer will be raking in a whopping $168 million for her residency.

Recently, Perry gave “Good Morning America” a sneak peek of her extravagant stage show and shared her experience performing. She mentioned that her shows have always been larger than life, but this time she plays a doll so everything appears three times her size.

Perry humorously described the show as a mix of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” and “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” catering to an audience looking to have a good time and let loose.

During a behind-the-scenes tour, she revealed to “GMA” the oversized props that will be featured in her upcoming show. These props included a massive bathtub, snails, a plunger, and more.
Reflecting on her life changes since 2020, when she last went on tour, she shared how becoming a mother to her daughter Daisy with partner Orlando Bloom has brought her newfound balance, perspective, and immense joy.
Expressing her thoughts on the power of music, she emphasized how it serves as a source of happiness, a way to release grief, a reason to dance, and even a soundtrack to people’s lives. Perry hopes to continue being a part of that musical experience for her fans.
